What is High Reliability Organizing?

High Reliability Organizing (HRO) characterises a specific way of organizing. In the face of uncertainty and unpredictability it enables organizations to create reliable performance.

High Reliability Organizations are high hazard organizations like some aircraft carriers or intensive care unit at hospitals that have proven remarkably successful in face of uncertainty and unpredictability. Their safety and reliability records are surprising given the considerable risks and challenges these organisations face. These organisations have shown to invest in capabilities to learn and adapt quickly as well as in flexible ways of organising.
